Nothing is certain. So everything really ís works possible.

One of my favorite wisdom/quotes: little to nothing is ever certain, so therefore everything is possible. Just let it sink in, and you’ll find that the realization is a bliss.

My dad’s accident a few years ago made this quote become top of mind. At that time, the doctors reported that with to certainty bordering probability he would have to let go of life, because of too much brain damage. I remember the moment when the anesthesiologist gave him a 5% chance of survival. I immediately expressed that he would be that one out of twenty to survive.

In reality, the outcome that was considered to be almost impossible became a new reality: he embraced life more firmly & lovingly than ever before. It did become totally different. He lost a lot, at least on a physical and mental level. But together we won so much on relational level.

So…I believed in miracles and they happened. It made me hold on to the conviction that really everything ís possible as long as nothing is ever certain.

That situation and this quote also brought and brings into focus many other insights.

Like the importance of living in the now. I confess in all honesty that I needed a lot of life experience & years on my counter to really start practicing it. And sometimes I still forget it.

This wisdom also spontaneously makes me think of the words balance & perspective. Finding balance and putting things into perspective are crucial talents to develop for a happy life.

But of course life and we are always in motion, so balance is to be found again and again. It’s not a fixed state. Since nothings is certain enough to give it a fixed weight. And the weight of a situation or state is also very personal, dependent on who experiences it and when.

One thing that ís certain though is that our life only runs in the direction “forward”.  We always carry weight from te road behind with us probably. Yet another talent to develop for mastering the art of living is to release of what got stuck on you on the road already followed, but does not actually serve you anymore. Letting go what wears you down and embrace what fuels you forward is crucial for a happy life too.

Knowing that everything is possible since nothing is certain makes that so much easier.

And on the road ahead dreams are a great companion. Should daydreaming be a profession, I would have a top career. That makes me pretty convinced that dreaming can also keep you from truly experiencing life as it happens. For dreams are mostly wishes, hopes or expectations about a desired picture of the future. So while in dreamland it is good to not let the NOW pass you by. Because along with it also opportunities to effectively realize dreams will pass by.

And so the circle is completed.

When nothing is certain, everything is possible. The only moment you are truly sure of is now. And your next now will always be on the road ahead.

As my ‘bonne’ used to say, “Time never returns, girl.” NOW is the only time & place to live life. With a backpack full of wisdom from the road begins and a wish jar full of dreams for the road ahead. But with both feet, your heart and mind balanced and firmly anchored in exactly this moment,
